Do you want to get a painting for yourself?

A painting that reminds you of your hopes?

paintings for hope

Since the 21st March 2014 at 12 o’clock CET, we are displaying a new painting every day for 365 days. One can be yours, if you like the painting and if it reminds you of your own hopes.
Why? Every day we are aggressively inundated by terrible news and hideous images. Our hopes disappear under the daily terror of power over the powerless, insatiable greed,

inflated mediocrity and the cynical misinterpretation that the value of art is its price. As a reaction to this we are initiating something simple, natural and necessary. It is our pleasure to give away 365 objects of art, original oil paintings, signed, to people who appreciate them because they find an attraction in them and connect them to their hope. 365 people will connect their hopes with a picture and be connected to the choices and hopes of others.

And that works.

Dostoevsky said that beauty saves the World.

And Pablo Picasso stated: "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away."

That's how it is.

Here is the new project "Hope & Give".

C.P.Seibt is an artist who works on the Cycladic island of Paros. His works are distinctive and of a fascinating diversity. More about the oeuvre of Seibt you'll find here. Facebook here.

Report 365 Paintings For Hope

Is a radical, generous and creative art project, a social sculpture, an alternative to the cynicism of the art marketplace.

On the 21st of March 2014 we started this unique project.
We gave away an original oil painting every day for 365 days.
We gave the art to people who were inspired by the painting, people who found an attraction in it and connected this piece of art to their own hopes.

Every day at 12 o´clock we presented a new painting on the website.
People in whom the painting sparked an awakening of hopes and who wanted to have it could apply for it and wrote to us of their hopes, thoughts, feelings.
Every day we held a lottery, randomly choosing the winner from the people who submitted. The paintings were sent once a week to the new owners, all over the world, absolutely free of charge.

At the projects' completion, 4.686 hopes from 38 countries reached us, and even more, touched us. Thousands of people have linked their hopes with a piece of art and are connected to the choices and hopes of others.

The new owners of the paintings, all 365 people in 35 different countries are living today with an original work of art that reminds them of their hope.

Many people expressed their joy in receiving this piece of art, as it spoke to them of their hopes and dreams and has brought a positive beautiful change in their lives. We learned that they, in turn, communicate this change to others.  So the change grows and grows. That was the intention of the Project Paintings For Hope! We feel that together we have made a change. Thank you for helping to make this happen.

Why did we do this project?

We realized that every day we are bombarded with images of horror, with malignant ideas, empty noise, obscene arbitrariness, inflated mediocrity and the cynical misinterpretation that the value of art is its price. People call this "Art" but it is in fact the "Art Market". (Stupid. Fat. Kitsch.) Our hopes disappear under the daily terror of power over the powerless.

We simply do not accept it; it is basic: War is not peace and the price of something is not the value. In short, the market is not the art. Cynicism is not creation. But we are not at all rendered helpless by this billion-dollar industry.

As a reaction to this we wanted to do something. And as we believe that art has the power to transform society we came to the idea of this project "365 Paintings for Hope".

The project as a “social sculpture”

In the November 12 issue of The Huffington Post, professor, writer and activist Creston Davis wrote: “The project is based on Joseph Beuys´s idea of a "social sculpture". (to see the whole article here

The artist Joseph Beuys created the term “social sculpture” in the 70s. It is based on the idea that human beings, communicating with art, change their lives and a life changed will radiate that to others.

In fact, the concept of a social sculpture is a form of hope in itself: The raw material of a social sculpture is the interweaving of people's dreams and hopes and is expressed in the form and the process of giving and receiving. Specifically, our project "365 Paintings for Hope" takes on the form that each day, for a year, we share daily a different painting in order to stimulate hopes remembered or created for those who encounter it.

Hope is spread throughout social relations in and through art. Imagine the joy. Imagine the possibilities.

So many hopes. The hope which gives art, the hope that a society can be a community, the hope, that we can create a difference, that we are the difference.

The feedback for the project so far:
Intense and enthusiastic. We received daily emails with very encouraging messages from around the world. Reading them gave us daily joy and made us happy. Everyone was very thankful, positively surprised, and found this to be the perfect project for the troubling times in which we live, spreading love and hope and joy. Some people coud not believe there were no “strings” attached. Many of the inspiring messages we collected can be read further down.

Thank you all.

Dear Heidi and Peter,

Needless to say that personally I am over the moon with this idea...and my guess is that this is relevant to a remark that Peter made to a Facebook post  that I made a few months ago...

Thank you both for your incredible generosity and for making 365 people directly happy, but also all those who will enjoy your work as visitors, guests, friends, family and relatives of the lucky winners...

I will certainly spread the word and keep my fingers crossed, that maybe we will drown one day in the next twelve months...

Thank you, Zana

My dearest Heidi and Peter, thank you so much for your reply I came back late from Naxos and had tried to send off my filled in form many times pressing the send button but it didn't work so as you suggested I tried again today and it went off  hurrah so I hope you got it and I will be lucky as it's such an evocative painting for what despair I've been going through recently  it really spoke to me and stirred a spark in me . I so appreciate your gesture of the paintings for hope such a glorious idea and I thank you for it.

Hello Dear Mr. C.P. Seibt,

Your idea is wonderful and most generous of you to be giving a painting every day for a year.

I myself am a self-taught artist and know the meaning of giving and sharing your art.

My name is Adrijana Ananieva and I come from the capital of the Rep. of Macedonia.

And since you give away paintings I would give in exchange one of my works.

I very much like the painting with the number 58 Nicole Nieto, Sao Paulo/Brasil

I hope that at the end of the way we can find peace.

Giving is the most enriching feeling. And without exception it can never be replaced. Giving will save us one day.

God bless You *** Best regards,

Adrijana Ananieva, Macedonia

Dear Heidi & Peter,

I’m so so happy to  have won your n.229 painting!

Really excited and honored to give space in my house to this work of hope.

Chiara Bertoloni, Italy

Dear Heidi and C.P.!!!

Yesterday we got your gifts and we are so happy!!! It was such a great pleasure to open the package and see these amazing beautiful paintings!!! They are even much more beautiful in original! We love them and we thank you so much for them!! Of course we will send you a picture of us soon!

And we will put them in frames and hang them together, as a symbol also for our small family. To win three paintings in such a short time will remind us always to the strength of our desires. If you want it you get it:-)))

I really love this project - it is so full of joy and love and really is making a difference for us! We go on spreading your idea and my mother also loves them! We talk about the hopes and this makes us feel better! This is what art should do.

I also wanted to communicate you an idea regarding the project. I think what the people write about their hopes could be also part of it, so to publish somehow all the hopes (from each who applies) together with each painting, somehow like that. So it would be very interesting to see the different ideas and hopes associated with the same painting.

I saw your circle of hopes and it is also fantastic and I like the idea a lot!

So, I wish you both a wonderful day ! And thanks again for everything!!!

Isabella, Michael and Miriam Hartl, Germany

Dearest Heidi and Peter,

Your generosity and artistry are heart warming. I look forward to seeing your art every day.

Thank you so much for this lovely gift on a morning. You have touched me when I so needed a touch.

With love and gratitude,

Jane Edwards, USA

Dearest Heidi and Peter,

My painting arrived in Florida today. It is even more beautiful in my hands!

I will send you a photo of me with the painting soon, when someone visits to photograph me.

You generosity and artfulness are now part of my life, and I am deeply grateful.

With love, Jane Edwards

Hi Heidi and C.P.

I hope you are both well.  I am the lucky recipient of painting number 25 and am absolutely thrilled with it and to be part of your wonderful campaign (that’s me in the attached photo holding the painting).  My daughter-in-law, Carolin Plewa, was the lucky recipient of painting number 5, and was the person who told me about your project.  I have since spread the word to my friends and work colleagues.  I also read on your website about your wedding and would love a photo of you both, if that was possible.

Thank you for the opportunity to be part of ‘Paintings for Hope’.

Kind regards,

Ann Van Trigt, Australia

Peter and Heidi,

I must tell you my story!  Winning the painting really felt like a miracle.

I am an abstract expressionist painter, finally painting again now, after 30 years of taking care of everyone else - now that I am retired, it is my turn.

…. Art has nothing to do with the price it sells for, as I well know, but was forgetting because of fear.  And then I went to my computer and saw that a very beautiful painting was to be given to me!  A painting that is part of a project so loving that the painting will bless my house with its presence every day…

Thank you so much for including me in the raffle for this beautiful piece that will soon be gracing my wall.  I will, indeed, let others know about Paintings for Hope!

With love and gratitude,

Yvonne Magee, /UK

Dear Heidi and Peter,

Best wishes to you

Hans & Inge Hehrmann, Germany

Dear Heidi and Peter,

I am so sorry, that it took so long to give you an answer...! Thank you very much for this beautiful and powerful painting... :) It arrived in about 3 weeks after I won it. It has its place in the centre of our home to remind us to our hopes and wishes to grow and to become more beauty and lots of wings :))

Today I send to you a picture of the painting and me in our garden. The photograph is my son (my sun...!) :))

My wish to you is, that the hope and love, which you give to so many people will be YOUR gift and carry you through your life!

All the best,

Edith Maria Breuer

Dear Heidi & Peter,

I think this is such a special way of sending kindness into the world.

And though you made a LOT of paintings Peter, I think it's such a simple thing to do it in fact. I really HOPE it makes the world a better place ... and we really SHOULD take care   ;-)

Love from Holland,

Dear Heidi and Peter,

I am the one to thank you  for YOUR generosity! It's a wonderful initiative and I'm sure you have made lots of people happy (actually 199!) and that is no small number. I had lost hope because I liked so many of your paintings and none of them came to me so now I know I should never lose hope; there is the right moment for everything.

I have already talked to my friends and family about you and I even remind them of sending their hopes too!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I wish you the best and I can't wait to receive my painting!!!!!!!

With best regards,

Your unique 'marathon' is nearing its end but what pleasure you have given to so many of us around the world..... not just the most generous gift of 'paintings' but the opportunity to expand our minds with explanations and hopes AND a reminder to cherish and embrace  light, colour and optimism in an often troubled world.

I really hope we meet again soon.

My very warmest regards, Chris Stockdale, UK

Dearest Heidi and Peter,

painting #309 has arrived, in mint condition (all is well), even though the weather outside isn't as lovely (it's been snowing for a week or so). The painting brought sunshine to this gloomy day :) I was so excited to finally see it ''in person''.

''My'' painting for hope will have its own, proud place so everyone can see it... and most importantly, so I can see it every day and remind myself of my hopes.

Thank you, Peter and Heidi, once again, for everything you do - it's amazing! All best to both of you and all your future art endeavors! I hope to (and plan on) starting a similar art project, so I hope I can contact you if I have any questions about how to organize such a big-scale project?

P.S. Here's one of the photos from when I opened the package.

With love,

Mia Pavlovic, Croatia

Dear Heidi and Peter,

It arrived days ago- and I LOVE it--- thank you for all this project does.  Truly.

Dear Heidi and Peter,

thank you so very much for this painting and the visualization of my hope. You are right, the beauty of the painting is indeed more intense than the digital presentation. My heart sings everytime I look at it.

And many thanks for your project, for sharing and letting others open up about their hopes. What a pity it soon ends; and what a pleasure it happened!

My fondest regards to you

Nicole von Horst, Germany

Thank you very much I look forward to receiving the painting soon! I'll be sure to take a picture of it and send the picture to you after I hang it up. This is a great thing that you do, giving away your work to people who find a meaning in it. I will also be sure to tell my other friends about Paintings For Hope so that they too can maybe win a painting too.

Thanks again!

Imran Nuri, USA

Dear Heidi and Peter,

My WONDERFUL painting has arrived safely and in 'real life' has so much depth and FABULOUS  colours....we love it....THANKYOU.

I shall spend many happy moments reinterpreting what I see in my treasured gift.

Your unique 'marathon' is nearing its end but what pleasure you have given to so many of us around the world......not just the most generous gift of 'paintings' but the opportunity to expand our minds with explanations and hopes AND a reminder to cherish and embrace  light, colour and optimism in an often troubled world.

Dear Heidi und Peter,

We write to thank you for the two wonderful oil paintings that you two were kind enough to send to Elke and me.

We believe your ‘Paintings of Hope’ project is enchanting and really does spread cheer and hope, even if it is sometimes only the hope of receiving a material possession. Your project gives to others without expectation of material reciprocity – it only asks that we all think better thoughts about hope for something better, a variant of envisioning eudemonia as a condition of possibility, if one will.

Hello Peter, hello Heidi!

I want to say thank you again, of course for the gift but also for the nice moment in the morning when I look at the new painting. It is nice to start the day with thinking about a hope.

I am very impressed by your generosity. Maybe it can initiate more movements like this, first of all it is my turn.

All the best, Babette Reinicke, Germany

Dear Heidi, Peter, and those who are involved in this project

Thank you very much for the painting. I received it last week. I was so happy when I finally saw it and held it in my hands! It is a truly beautiful painting. I decided to place it above my office desk. Every time I look at the painting, I feel calm and joy.

I hope you continue to bring hope and joy to people around the world. Also thanks to Carolin Plewa, winner of painting no. 5, for telling me about this great project.

Warm regards from Australia, Joanne Ho

Thank you again, Heidi and Peter! Your magnificent art adds a special touch to many homes around the world.. Kids in these families grow up by watching and thinking about these paintings, being influenced by you. Really glad to have this opportunity of being part of your paintings' "family"
